You know how there aren’t enough podcasts? Well, Dear Reader, have I got great news. I’m writing today to tell you about a brand new podcast all about the business of photography. More to the point, I’m half of the team that’s making it.

Each week1 join me and my friend and colleague, Jay Fram, as we try to figure out what the hell is happening to the photography business. (Spoiler alert: I can already tell, we’re totally gonna solve it.)

I’m proud to introduce Continuous Agitation, a podcast in which two longtime photographers talk about the peculiar challenges of trying to earn a buck with a camera in 2026 and beyond. Between us, Jay and I have 50+ years of professional experience (and we’re nearly 13 feet tall). You’d think that would mean we’d have it all figured out by now but, believe it or not, it’s a perpetual work in progress.

As I told Art + Math’s paid subscribers in their sneak peek last week, “Our industry has been experiencing seismic changes, and literally every working pro I know is wondering what the hell is going on. Jay and I will attempt to figure that out. Or at least talk about it, and the consequences, and what (if anything) we can do about it.”

We’re working hard to make sure it’s as upbeat and entertaining as it is informative, and I would be thrilled if you would check it out. Even more thrilled if you liked, subscribed and rated it five stars on Apple podcasts.2

Credit where it’s due, the podcast was Jay’s idea. It sprang from our regular conversations in which we help one another out, trying to determine how to bid an assignment, solve a problem for a client, or deal with a problem client. We talk rates and fees and costs, of course. But we also discuss copyright and usage licensing and the imminent takeover of AI.3 If you are trying to earn your living with a camera, as Jay and I have each been since 2000, you’re bound to find the conversations pertinent and engaging. If I do say so myself.

I’m the reason we didn’t start the thing sooner. Jokes aside, there are so many podcasts, and so many bad podcasts, and so many middle aged dudes making podcasts… There are so many outside reasons not to do a podcast. But I finally realized I can’t help any of that. I only know that I am endlessly fascinated by our medium and this business and even more intrigued by the changes that present new challenges every day. And I wanna talk about it.

I can’t say that we have big plans, or even that we have a well-developed road map. But I can tell you we do have several ideas I’m excited about. And, most importantly, we’re taking seriously our obligation not to waste your time. I hope you give it a listen, and I hope you enjoy it even half as much as we’re enjoying making it.

Thank you!

– Bill

Or, more likely, every couple weeks, or maybe sometimes a month or more. We’re still working this out, frankly, and I think it’s likely to vary.

I hate to sound so needy, but this is what determines whether a podcast — or a newsletter, for that matter — gets seen or buried. Smash all the buttons.

Interestingly, Jay and I have fairly different approaches to AI, so that’s sure to make for exciting arguments discussions.
